Your credibility deserves a visible platform
Daniel Rubin went from 33 LinkedIn connections to a recognised voice in retail leadership
Core outcome
33 → 1,134
LinkedIn connections to followers
01. The context
Opening
Daniel Rubin had spent decades building Dune London. His reputation in retail was substantial; his digital footprint was almost empty.
When his book was ready to launch, Daniel had just 33 LinkedIn connections and a largely dormant profile. PR could generate attention, but without a credible platform of his own, there was nowhere for that attention to land and no obvious way to keep the conversation going.
Daniel had already earned his authority. Brandspire's job was to make it visible and useful.
Does this sound familiar?
You may recognise Daniel's starting point if:
- Your career and results speak for themselves while your online presence remains quiet
- You are publishing a book and want the campaign to keep creating opportunities after launch week
- You have stories and opinions worth sharing, but no desire to become a full-time content creator
- You want support without losing control of what appears under your name
02. The strategy
The missing piece was an owned platform
Daniel's book was launching alongside a PR campaign from The Book Publicist. Brandspire's role was to turn that moment of visibility into a lasting personal platform, primarily on LinkedIn, with Instagram in a supporting role.
We needed to build the foundations almost from scratch, turn Daniel's experience into content people would want to engage with and create a process he could realistically sustain.
Daniel also wanted to remain closely involved. He reviewed, edited and approved posts throughout the engagement. The aim was never to make him sound like Brandspire; it was to help more people hear from Daniel.

03. The work
We turned a launch moment into a repeatable authority system
Brandspire:
- Branded and rebuilt Daniel's largely dormant LinkedIn profile
- Created a visual identity for his social content
- Grew his network from an initial 33 connections
- Extracted stories from his career and book, then shaped them into engaging content
- Managed the content strategy, comments, engagement and direct messages
- Amplified media coverage secured through the wider publicity campaign
- Used performance data to refine the schedule from three LinkedIn posts a week to two
- Supported video production and trained Daniel to participate more independently over time
- Looked beyond book sales to speaking, events, awards and commercial opportunities
X was set up to capture media coverage, and TikTok remained a future possibility once sufficient video existed. LinkedIn received the greatest attention because it offered the strongest route to Daniel's audience and goals.

Top 3%
Social Selling Index in his industry
What changed?
Daniel gained followers and built an audience that made sense for his work.
- 130,486 LinkedIn impressions by 12 December
- 63,384 members reached
- 2,678 engagements
- 1,118 profile viewers
- 276 connection requests
- 1,134 LinkedIn followers by January
- 14.1% follower growth in February, after posting had been reduced to twice a week
Audience quality was equally important: 46% of Daniel's LinkedIn audience was London-based, 32% held senior roles and 27% worked in retail. His Social Selling Index reached 48, placing him in the top 3% of his industry and the top 14% of his network.
The platform also helped create outcomes beyond social media:
- Paid bulk book orders
- Panellist appearance at Elite Business Live
- Keynotes at the Hampshire and Kent Business Shows, both including bulk book orders
- A 60th-anniversary event with the University of Kent at Dune London's offices
- Book placement at two University of Kent business events
- Entry into, and subsequent shortlisting for, the Business Book Awards following Brandspire's prompt
05. Your path
What this could mean for you
Starting with a small audience gives an experienced leader the chance to build deliberately. A modest, relevant network can become commercially useful when the positioning, content and opportunity strategy work together.
Daniel's twice-weekly content continued to grow reach and followers. Consistency came from a sustainable rhythm, genuine experience and a clear understanding of the audience we wanted to reach.
“It's been a pleasure working with you. I have learnt a lot and now have a presence on social.”
